Dependent Child Visas (Appendix FM)

Who This Is For

This route is for children of parents who are settled in the UK, British citizens, or on a qualifying visa under Appendix FM (e.g. Spouse, Partner, or Parent routes). It includes children applying from overseas or inside the UK who are dependent on a sponsoring parent.

Key Requirements

To qualify, the child must:

✅ Be under 18 at the date of application (unless already on the route)
✅ Be applying with or to join a parent who is either:

• Present and settled in the UK (e.g. ILR, British citizenship, refugee status), or

• Applying under Appendix FM (e.g. Spouse or Partner route)
  ✅ Not be married or living independently
  ✅ Be adequately supported, with:

• Evidence of accommodation and maintenance

• Financial eligibility met in line with the parent’s visa requirements

If Applying Under Article 8 (ILR Sponsors)

Where a parent holds ILR or British citizenship and the child has a significant history in the UK, or would face hardship if separated, applications may be made on human rights grounds (Article 8: right to family life). We assess this route based on the child’s ties, length of residence, and best interests.
